Wine and Dime Episode 73 - with Whealthcare Planning Co-Founder Chris Heye
In this episode of Wine and Dime, I get the opportunity to sit down with a co-founder of Whealthcare Planning, Dr. Chris Heye. We had a great conversation about the cost of health care and the impact it can have on your wealth, especially as you age. The inspiration that led him to being a part of this organization, and the passion he has is not something you want to miss. So, pop open a bottle of your favorite wine, or a nice Red Bordeaux, as Chris suggests, and enjoy the show!!

Our story
We are a mission-driven company dedicated to helping individuals and families more successfully plan for the financial and emotional challenges associated with aging.
We provide a unique cloud-based platform offering a suite of innovative tools and educational materials developed in cooperation with thought leaders in geriatrics, psychiatry, and financial planning. Our approach is based in part on a clinical study and related work conducted in the psychiatry department at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
Our platform focuses on preparing individuals and families for four major life transitions that virtually all older adults confront: when to turn over financial decision-making, when and how to transition health care decision-making, when to change living arrangements, and when to quit driving.
Chris Heye, PhD - Co-Founder
Dr Heye is the Co-Founder of Whealthcare Planning LLC and Founder and CEO of Cogniscient, Inc. and has extensive experience starting and running technology companies. After confronting dementia first hand in his own family and witnessing elder financial abuse in friends, he decided not enough was being done to protect the financial well-being of older adults. He co-designed and managed the clinical study “Cognitive Function as a Proxy of Financial Decision Making in Older Primary Care Adults” at the Massachusetts General Hospital which investigated the behavioral and cognitive underpinnings of financial decision-making. He is a member of the Financial Planning Association's (FPA) FinTech Advisory Group. He received his BA from Wesleyan University and PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Burgundy wine
Burgundy Wine is wine made in the Burgundy region in eastern France in the valleys and slopes west of the Saône, a tributary of the Rhône. The most famous wines produced here—those commonly referred to as "Burgundies"—are dry red wines made from Pinot noir grapes and white wines made from Chardonnay grapes.
Red and white wines are also made from other grape varieties, such as Gamay and Aligoté, respectively. Small amounts of rosé and sparkling wines are also produced in the region. Chardonnay-dominated Chablis and Gamay-dominated Beaujolais are formally part of the Burgundy wine region, but wines from those subregions are usually referred to by their own names rather than as "Burgundy wines".
Burgundy has a higher number of appellations d'origine contrôlée (AOCs) than any other French region, and is often seen as the most terroir-conscious of the French wine regions. The various Burgundy AOCs are classified from carefully delineated Grand Cru vineyards down to more non-specific regional appellations. The practice of delineating vineyards by their terroir in Burgundy goes back to medieval times, when various monasteries played a key role in developing the Burgundy wine industry.

Wine and Dime Episode 72 - Forward Thinking with Sue Gruber
Hey Wine and Dime listeners, welcome back for another episode, and thank you for listening. Today’s guest is Sue Gruber. Sue is a retired teacher who has started a new business called Forward Thinking Home Solutions. Forward thinking was born out of the struggles that she came across while remodeling her home, and thinking about her future. When you listen to how Sue became a certified aging specialist you’ll really respect the time and commitment that she has put into this encore career. So sit back, open your favorite beverage and enjoy the show.
Sue Gruber
Forward Thinking Home Solutions
forward.thinking.homes@gmail.com
Sue Gruber's career choices and passion for remodeling and design naturally led her to earn the National Association of Home Builder's (NAHB) designation of Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS). This subsequently led her to take NAHB continuing education classes for Universal Design/Build and Train-the-Trainer status.
Years ago, as Pastoral Associate for the All Saints Parish in Corning, NY, Sue visited parishioners in nursing and assisted-living facilities and found that many of the residents were unable to go home only because their homes were unfit. This prompted her to renovate her own home, designing all of the changes and doing the majority of the renovations herself with the counsel of contractors and qualified advisors. Intuitively, she used Universal Design elements throughout. Afterwards, she was encouraged to earn CAPS designation to help educate others in our area about Aging-in-Place and Universal Design. She is passionate about educating others so that they can make good forward-thinking decisions when remodeling or building their home.
Sue is now a Licensed Approved NAHB Instructor and offers NAHB CAPS and Universal Design/Build courses for contractors, health professionals, designers, architects, and anyone interested in modifying or building a home. Teaching these courses has been one of the most rewarding experiences for Sue, as it brings her in contact with dedicated experts from many fields related to aging in place. Their stories are awe-inspiring. The sharing of experiences and expertise makes the class a well-rounded learning experience for everyone involved. By the end of the three days, friendships have been formed and networks have been built.

Wine and Dime Episode 70 - Psychology of Money
In this episode of Wine and Dime, I again chat with Kerrie Beene. Kerrie and I talk about the psychology of money, how affects our decisions and the impact it has on our mental health. I think that this was a facinating topic that I think all of our listeners can enjoy. So sit on back, sip your favorite wine, and enjoy the show.
El Pensador - The Thinker
With slightly sharp, herbal red-fruit aromas, this representes the lighter side of Garnacha. In the mouth, it's choppy but fresh, while leafy flavors of plum, raspberry and peppery spice finish fiery and dry.

Wine and Dime Episode 69 - Coaching for Fiscal Fitness with Kerrie and Amy
In this episode of Wine and Dime, I got to travel down to Oklahoma to visit one of our financial planners, Kerrie Beene. While here we were able to celebrate Kerrie getting her CFP and visit a great winery here in Oklahoma, “Girls gone Wine”. We also jumped in our affiliation with Fiscal Fitness Club, and how the coaching goes on there. It was a great talk, and if you are wondering what the Fiscal Fitness Club was all about, than this is the podcast for you! Be sure to rate and subscribe and thanks for listening!
Kerrie Beene, CFP®
FINANCIAL COACH
My own personal financial journey has taught me that while they're important, life is more than numbers. Finding joy in the journey towards personal goals is key. A smart plan with a lot of heart goes a long way to keeping daily financial decisions in line with your long term goals. I graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State University with a degree in Business Administration and hold a certificate in Financial Planning from Wake Forest University. I passed the CFP exam in November of 2016 and I'm currently working towards my service hours. I began my career in financial planning by starting my own company, Beene Financial Planning. Having the desire to work as a team, I then joined Irvine Wealth Planning Strategies. My roots in Southeast Oklahoma have given me great insight on the need for financial planning that is not just investment focused, but also on all the other financial planning decisions. I enjoy, and work best, with those who are ready to take control of their finances and use their money to fulfill their goals and dreams.
Fiscal Fitness Club of America
Our Philosophy
Fiscal Fitness Clubs of America believes that the purpose of money is to first create financial security and then to accomplish your goals, while matching your values. We believe that joy in life can’t be separated from money, and that reducing financial stress through the management of cash flow and assets can add more joy to your life than owning “stuff,” or buying experiences at the expense of your financial security. We also believe that “knowing” and “doing” are not the same. Our goal is to give you the knowledge and tools to manage your financial life, so you get what you want from your labor and money. We are all about empowering you, not about you needing us. Our goal is that, at the end of our relationship, you will have confidence in your financial path and feel comfortable knowing what you need to do to manage your financial resources and advisors. That doesn’t mean you might not prefer to delegate some or all of the tasks to us or someone else. Whether or not our relationship continues, our goal is that you will have confidence in your ability to make informed decisions.
There is an important consequence of this philosophy. You will be committing your time and energy on a regular basis to:
Gathering and sharing data
Completing assignments, such as meeting with your insurance agent or organizing your paperwork
Committing to becoming comfortable with technology as a tool to manage your finances
Acting upon mutually agreed recommendations
Girls Gone Wine
Girls Gone Wine is more than just a great tasting room with great wines
It is a fun boutique winery with a funky, sassy gift shop. Though there is no vineyard, all the wine is fermented and produced on site--their slogan is "Girls Gone Wine...not Girls Gone Farming!"

Overview
Sheilas in Australia means girls, which is why we chose this name for this Australian Shiraz, with hints of black fruits and spice. Australia is known for its kangaroos, and this one on the label ended up looking kind of like Scooby Doo... which we sometimes call him Scooby Roo!

Brandy is young woman who shares her story of strength and how she recovered from abuse. Throwing Light with Brandy Walker
The opposite of throwing shade, TL is explores the intersection of spirituality and mental health. With a hefty dose of metaphysics and a whole lot of vulnerability, TL asks questions like: What does it mean to co-create with the universe? Does magic exist? What can ordinary people do about the great injustices of our time? What does living a meaningful life look like? Can we make coffee a food group? Host Brandy Walker attempts to answer these questions, and start new conversations about old paradigms, all while being her awkward, adorable self.
Fulkerson Winery
THE WINEMAKERS’ WINERY
We used to be a simple farm, growing raspberries & grapes. Then, we took it a step further; we acquired Jensen Juice and began to offer fresh grape juice to home winemakers. Before we knew it, our passion grew into the Fulkerson Winery you know & love today. We believe progression is natural, and we are proud to have become the winemakers’ winery.
SYRAH ROSÉ
Our 2.88 acres of Syrah planted in 2014, is one of the largest plantings in New York of this early ripening, vigorous variety from the northern Rhône. The site we chose to cultivate this variety is on the furthest down-slope of our original 1805 farm. The site is well drained with deep Howard series soils. This site is steep and protected from strong winds, which also allows for good air drainage, protecting the site from both high and low temperatures throughout the year. Being a mid-ripening variety, we are able to select optimal flavor and sugar levels a little better than with some of our more traditional red varieties which ripen at the end of the season.
Exhibiting flavors of berry and red fruit, this delightfully balanced rosé will be sure to please. Pair with cheese, salads and good company. Perfect for any occasion!

Red, Rosé, Classic (Vinifera)

Wine and Dime Episode 65 - Planning a Wedding "Becky Style" with Becky Partridge-Eason
Hello again Wine and Dime listeners! In this episode, I have the pleasure of speaking with Becky Partridge-Eason. Becky is a financial planner with us here at Rooted Planning Group and describes herself as “frugal”. During the episode we talk about the planning of her wedding, and boy did that term “frugal” help her save a ton. If you are planning a wedding or know someone who is, this episode is for you! So sit back, enjoy a nice bottle of Lakewood Abbey Rose, and enjoy the show!
Lakewood Winery History
In 1951, the Stamp family moved to Lakewood Farm, a run-down peach and apple orchard on the west side of Seneca Lake. The next spring, they started planting grapes. The original grapes were those favored by the large wineries and grape juice companies. In the mid-80’s the family diversified to add some new varieties, with the hope of someday using them to make their own wines.
In 1988, Monty and Beverly Stamp and their children pressed the grapes for their first vintage.
A Vision Realized
Lakewood Vineyards Winery opened to the public in June 1989 with 7 varieties of wine, made from estate-grown grapes from their 45 acres of vineyards.
Today, with 80 acres of vineyards and 3 Stamp family generations working together, the winery produces a diverse selection of wines. Their dedicated and talented team prides themselves on offering Finger Lakes wines of exceptional quality and value.
2017 Abby Rose
