"My true purpose as a financial planner is to create an inviting environment where you are encouraged to discuss your money without judgment, to learn about your investments in a way you enjoy and become more comfortable managing your money with confidence"
I grew up in a family that lived with what we needed and didn't have a lot left over for luxury. At the age of 14, I realized that making money meant that I would have the opportunity to buy what I wanted and do what I wanted so I started working and saving. Knowing I had money in the bank for when I would need it gave me great confidence and provided a sense of safety and security. My passion for sharing these core principles with others led me to my role as a financial planner, but I was wearing rose-colored glasses
While I was here to guide and educate, the industry was all about selling and products. It was an experience that was miserable for a lot of people, including myself. As I watched this process I could see how many people felt that most discussions revolved around product and investments and left out true desires and goals. This was totally unacceptable to me. I knew that the financial world was confusing to navigate, left out strategy outside of investments, and felt like a used-car lot instead of a true fiduciary environment.
Wealth of Confidence was created after 9 years of working with clients. It was finally time to combine my passion for planning with my purpose to break the mold and offer a great experience for you.
One Million Apples Podcast
The Mission & The Name
Every day, across the United States, teachers are taken advantage of financially. People are using deceptive practices to work with you, the people that educate our children. They are not only going after your hard earned money they are robbing you of your trust and confidence in your overall financial well-being. This has to stop!
While we would love more regulation, it does not guarantee an overall change. As you know EDUCATION has the potential to do great things. That is how this passion project started, to teach teachers all about their money.
Heavy stuff, right?
That is why we decided to lighten it up a bit and touch on other fun topics, trends, lifestyle, career issues and more.
Why One Million Apples?
There are between 4-5 million teachers in the K-12 and higher education system across the United States. Our mission is to impact the lives of at least ONE million.
You would not be the first to think that is crazy, we are a little overwhelmed with that number as well. That is why we are asking for your help to accomplish this mission. If you hear, read or watch something helpful on this site, please tell your friends. Also, let us know that you're here; we'd love to measure our progress along the way.

Decoy Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon
Since 1978, Duckhorn Vineyards has been exploring the character and complexity of Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Drawing on our winemaking team’s expertise working with this varietal, Decoy Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon offers a rich and appealing expression of the varietal crafted to be ready upon release.
WINE PROFILE
Production Notes
Varietal Content: 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Petite Sirah, 1% Cabernet Franc; Winemaking: 90% French oak, 10% American oak, 40% New, 60% Neutral
Winemaker Notes
Displaying the lushness and balance that define great Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon, this inviting wine features layers of blackberry and black cherry, along with notes of mocha, star anise and spearmint. On the palate, the juicy, bright fruit flavors are framed by rich, refined tannins that carry the wine to a satisfying finish.
Production
The 2016 growing season began with generous winter rains, followed by a spring and summer marked by moderate temperatures and abundant sunshine. Like several recent vintages, the 2016 harvest came early, delivering exquisite quality grapes. After the modest size crop of 2015, 2016 saw a welcome return to average yields. Overall, the 2016 whites show an ideal combination of lovely richness and excellent natural acidity, while the reds are lush and complex, with beautiful color and concentration.

Wine and Dime Episode 61 - Earth Day Made Easy with Anna Reger
In honor of Earth Day, I had the opportunity to speak with Anna Reger. Anna is a professor at Alfred State College, and teaches accounting, which is near and dear to my heart. In this episode of Wine and Dime, Anna and I explore different ways to be more eco-friendly and she shares her husbands Gluten Free Pizza recipe (Full recipe below). This was a great conversation and some great tips. So pop open a bottle of your favorite wine and enjoy this fantastic episode.
Lakewood Full Monty Riesling
While the nose is subdued, the palate of this semidry Riesling offers loads of fresh peach and yellow-cherry flavors. It's crisply balanced with fresh lime acidity and a brisk revitalizing finish.
Riesling Wine
Riesling is a light-skinned, aromatic grape of German origin which is – if the majority of top wine critics are to be believed – the world's finest white wine grape variety.
For many, the claim above may seem at odds with the sea of chaptalized, low-quality wine exported from Germany in the late 20th Century. In truth, very little of that infamous wine was Riesling at all, but instead higher-yielding grapes such as Müller-Thurgau and Silvaner), but the reputation has nonetheless stuck. Riesling has also been stereotyped as just a sweet grape, used only to make sticky wines. But while botrytized Rieslings are among the finest sweet wines in the world, the majority of global Riesling wines are either dry or off-dry.
McCarthy’s Gluten Free Pizza
Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
Mix your warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for a minute to dissolve.
In a separate bowl, mix together flour and salt. Next add the olive oil, egg, vinegar, and yeast mixture. You can use an electric mixer, but we just have a hand mixer and that works fine.
Mix on low for 1 minute.
Oil your spatula and hands, then use them to get the dough in to a ball.
Spread the dough on to an oiled heavy duty cookie sheet.
Bake for 8 minutes or so, long enough for the dough to be firm, but not golden brown.
Remove the sheet from the oven and add your toppings. Then bake it for another 8 minutes (or until its crispy to your liking.)
Pour a glass of wine and enjoy!
Notes:
-The dough is sticky, make sure your hands are oiled when handling the dough and oil the cookie sheet first.
-The Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free 1-to-1 is key! This is a flour blend that can be used as a flour replacement in just about any recipe. (Don’t confuse this flour with Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free General Purpose flour, it’s not the same thing.) We use it for pizza, cookies, and pancakes – anything!
-We have tried both a thin crust and a thicker crust – both work well.
Ingredients:
¾ cup warm water
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 packet of yeast
2 cups of Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free 1-to 1 flour (this flour is the KEY!)
1 teaspoon of salt
1 large egg
1 tablespoon of olive oil
1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar ( we use Bragg’s)
(Recipe originally adapted from one we found at https://www.glutenfreepalate.com/gluten-free-pizza-9-ingredients/ )

Wine and Dime Episode 60 - Faith in Action Executive Director, Dick Russell
This weeks guest, Dick Russell, is a long time friend as well as the director of one of my passion "projects" - Faith-in-Action. I first met Dick in 2005 when I found out about the organization and wanted to help in the cause to keep people in their home for as long as possible. Many people have to move out of their long-term home simply because they could no longer drive, and this organization is helping to combat this.
As you will hear, Dick, and his family, are givers; the true meaning of givers in fact. They have served their communities in so many ways and continue to do so. If you are interested in getting involved in this organization go to http://www.fiasteuben.org/ or call @ (607) 324-1138

WHO WE ARE
At a time when our need to reach out to each other is greatest, Faith in Action Steuben County, an interfaith volunteer care-giving program, stands ready to help in the Steuben County Area. Our trained volunteers provide supportive services to the elderly at no charge.
OUR MISSION
Faith in Action Steuben County is a coalition of congregations, civic groups, and communities united to serve the elderly, assisting them to continue to live independently. We seek to augment, not replace, the individual's existing care structure. This support is provided at no cost to the recipients, by selfless volunteers who give care to people in need.
Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery
The Generational Approach
Our approach to great winemaking is generational with each Frank family member building upon the foundation that Dr. Konstantin Frank built over fifty years ago. Continuing this legacy means producing the highest quality wines from the highest quality grapes.
Video: Terroir at Dr. Konstantin Frank Winery
We believe that quality starts in the vineyards with careful attention to detail and nurturing of our old vine vineyards first planted by Konstantin in 1958. These old vine vineyards are among the oldest in the United States. While they produce fewer grapes, the quality of the fruit results in more complex wines.
Over the years, we have discovered that the northern European grape varieties are most well suited for our region and have made it our passion to champion these varieties at our winery. Varieties such as Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir and most recently, Grüner Veltliner are among the most prized and beloved at our winery.
Our world class team of winemakers are a huge piece of the puzzle here. The team consists of winemakers from New York, California, Australia and Germany. Each team member contributes expertise from their respective region, adhering to the Frank family tradition of excellence.
Continuing Konstantin's legacy also means continuing to spread the word about the quality of Finger Lakes wines. We do this by entering wine competitions all over the world. Customers can also find our wines in many different states. Experience has taught us over the past fifty years that our wine region is and can become one of the most prestigious in the world.
Overview -
Dr. Konstantin Frank Riesling, Dry (2017)
Composition:
100% Riesling
Vinification:
The grapes were picked in the early morning to retain freshness, de-stemmed, and pressed immediately. Once pressed, the grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures to preserve the more delicate characteristics and freshness. The wine rests on its fine lees for 5 months before bottling.
The Wine:
An expressive style with dominant characters of minerality, grapefruit, lime and soft apricot. The crisp lime-driven acidity enhances the distinct Keuka Lake minerality, rounded by stone fruit and ginger. Our Riesling finishes long and mouthwatering balanced perfectly with a slightly weighty texture.

Wine and Dime Episode 59 - From Teacher to Financial Planner with Ryan Frailich

Before becoming a fee-only financial planner, I worked as a teacher and then as a school administrator overseeing HR, including recruiting and hiring teachers. Working in HR revealed a lot about the financial lives of employees, and that’s where the lightbulb went off:
Too many people feel overwhelmed with their finances, always wondering if they're making mistakes. And too many people who want help are taken advantage of or shut out by our financial institutions.
I changed careers, earned a certificate in financial planning from L.S.U., became a CFP® professional, and started Deliberate Finances.
When not working, I’m exploring New Orleans with my wife & young son, running or biking around the city, or watching way too many hours of tragic Minnesota sports teams.
Buffalo Trace Whiskey
Ancient buffalo carved paths through the wilderness that led American pioneers and explorers to new frontiers. One such trail led to the banks of the Kentucky River where Buffalo Trace Distillery has been making bourbon whiskey the same way for more than 200 years. In tribute to the mighty buffalo and the rugged, independent spirit of the pioneers who followed them, we created our signature Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.
TASTING NOTES:
This deep amber whiskey has a complex aroma of vanilla, mint and molasses. Pleasantly sweet to the taste with notes of brown sugar and spice that give way to oak, toffee, dark fruit and anise. This whiskey finishes long and smooth with serious depth.

Wine and Dime Episode 55 - Getting Perspective with Compassionate Care Attorney Antonio Martin
Welcome to Episode 55 of Wine and Dime. In this episode I speak with a lawyer that I have dubbed “The Compassionate Care Attorney”, Antonio Martin. Antonio owns a law firm in Celebration, Florida and is “committed to providing excellent legal representation to individuals, families, and businesses throughout Florida.” This episode is all about getting perspective. Perspective of others lives, perspective of other cultures, perspective of others thoughts… you get the idea. And how that can make you a better person, and in Antonio’s case, a better person. I think you will enjoy the episode as much as I enjoyed our conversation. So sit back, pop open a bottle of Bold Blackberry wine(one of Antonio’s favorites), and enjoy the show!

As a child my Grandmother repeatedly said that in order to master a game, you have to know the rules. As an attorney, understanding the rules of law means finding unique, well-founded resolutions and sharing them with my clients."
Antonio Martin, Esq.
Antonio Martin was born in Jacksonville, Florida and raised in Central Florida as a determined and successful student-athlete. Having eight living family members over the age of 90 years old helped Martin appreciate wise counsel and broad perspectives both in the here and now as well as the foreseeable future. Martin's unique definition of success comes from his view on life thanks to his courageous and hardworking elders... family traits he wishes to honor via every accomplishment achieved.
While Martin attended high school he garnered several incredible accolades from earning the #1 position in the country in the 800m in Track & Field to obtaining a Bright Futures Academic Scholarship. Mr. Martin has purposefully cultivated a personality of perseverance and excellence from an early age. During his tenure at Florida State University, he continued to practice perseverance in his track career, winning several medals within the Atlantic Coast Conference, while pursuing excellence by making the Dean's list several semesters. Martin received his Bachelor's of Science in 2004, after which he furthered his education by spending time abroad in China experiencing different perspectives in the world. He then made certain to apply those diverse perspectives in the pursuit of a law degree at Florida A&M College of Law.
As a law student, a father of his first daughter, and a sales representative in business-to-business sales, our founder learned the importance of relationships and communication. In fact, the time spent in the customer service industry gave birth to the vision for his own law firm which he established in 2011. As the Managing Attorney of Martin Law Group, P.L., Attorney Martin very quickly recognized a nexus between providing effective legal counsel and communication driven customer service that was missing amongst his competitors. Mr. Martin emphasizes, "Stellar legal advocacy without adequate client communication produces an unsatisfied client. Legal strategies provide legal solutions, but client communication provides client peace of mind."
Attorney Martin's personal experiences in both real estate and family law gives him a profound understanding of the importance of clarity when making important decisions. His highest desire is to provide the clarity Martin wished he had during his own personal experiences regarding family law and real estate. Martin Law Group is determined to provide clarity and peace of mind to our clients, to enable them to make educated decisions taking all involved parties, minute details, finances, time, and reputation into account.
Attorney Martin currently sits on the Board for “Housing for All”, an organization dedicated to providing transitional housing for the homeless. He recently has also been sworn in as an officer on the Board of Trustees for the Osceola County Salvation Army.
"In considering Dr. Stephen Covey's famous quote, 'Begin with the end in mind' we at Martin Law Group believe that a clear strategy requires a clear desired outcome."
Antonio Martin, Esq.

Hazlitt Winery
There are two stories here — ours and yours.
Our story goes something like this.
Back in 1852, David Hazlitt bought 153 acres of fruit trees and vineyards here in Hector, NY. Over the next six generations, various Hazlitts farmed the land, raised families and made wine. OK, we don’t know for sure that they all made wine, but given the great grapes that grow here and the current generation’s track record for producing amazing wine, we’ve got a feeling they did.
We do know for sure that in 1985, Jerry and Elaine Hazlitt founded Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards. Today, our family keeps the tradition going. Our grapes make award-winning wines. Our wines make us new friends. And we love making both.
Did it start with dinner with friends at one of those chic little restaurants in the Finger Lakes, with us at the horseshoe bar in our tasting room or with a special someone on a first-date picnic? Maybe it was our Cabernet Franc that made you a Hazlitt fan. Or a Riesling or a Sauvignon Blanc. Was it love at first sip with our legendary Ice Wine or did our Red Cat bring on a different sort of romantic mood? Everybody’s got a Hazlitt story—and if you don’t, click here to get started.
