Surviving Financial Infidelity

Each week I open the podcast reminding people that "Like wine, life and finances have different palettes that should be celebrated and not judged."  When you listen to this week's podcast, it's hard to envision any sort of "celebration" when it comes to financial infidelity, but this week's guest is on a mission to celebrate her recovery and help educate others along the way.

We refer to this guest as simply "Kelly" to protect her and her family.  This show was not easy for "Kelly," as you will hear.  She explains that financial infidelity is often subtle, it lurks in the background, UNTIL it doesn't.  Can you imagine, life is going along great, you've just had a child and are on maternity leave, then you get a knock on the door and you are served one day out of the blue?  Then over the course the next few weeks finding out that your identity has been "stolen" and you  have over $100,000 of debt in your name that you didn't know about?  Now add to that, the "theft" was your spouse.

"Kelly" reflects back on the signs leading up to the knock on the door and  provides some valuable lessons for all of us to follow.  Don't miss this survivor's journey, recovery, and preservane.

If you suspect that you might be a victim of identity theft or financial infidelity, it is critical that you move quickly.  If you haven't already, we would recommend that you pull your free credit report from www.annualcreditreport.com.  You can pull one free credit report from each of the agencies each year.

The Federal Trade Commission Consumer Information has some great resources for you to explore as well on reporting identity theft and creating a recovery plan: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/features/feature-0014-identity-theft

We know this episode is emotionally packed, but we are so thankful for "Kelly's" willingness to share her journey, in order to hopefully help others.
