A LITTLE BIT ABOUT BECKY EASON, CFP®

From the time I was a child I knew I wanted a career in business. I’ve grown up in the business environment and have always loved it. In high school I took every business class that was offered and fell in love with accounting. After high school, I initially enrolled in the business administration program at Alfred State College. A year into the program I was directed to the financial planning program and instantly knew that was the right choice. Financial planning is a perfect fit for me, as I can work with numbers and help people achieve their financial goals at the same time.  In my spare time I enjoy running, camping and bowling.

Welcome back Wine and Dime listeners. This week we are going to try something a little different and do what we are calling a "Walkthrough". We welcome to the show my brother, T.J. Meehan. T.J. edits the podcast as a side hustle and takes care of all the show notes and making sure it gets out to you all on a weekly basis. He is planning on going on a vacation for his 20-year anniversary and we are here to help. We go through some places to find cheap flights, to making sure your passport is in order, to thinking about trip insurance. If you're thinking of taking a vacation than there may be something in this episode for you.

Feel free to download this checklist, it covers a lot of the stuff we talked about during this episode!

KATE WELKER - CFP®

FINANCIAL PLANNER

I enjoy helping clients understand their finances and how to use their resources to live their ideal lives. I spent years working in a world that only focused on the investments and I found myself constantly wanting to do more for my clients. The investments are a piece of your puzzle, but I want to look at the big picture made up of all the pieces.

I joined Rooted Planning Group to be able to offer comprehensive advice to my clients. Working with a team of financial planners lets me focus on building client relationships while bringing the knowledge and experience of the group to the table.

I specialize in working with small business owners as well as busy working families. I was raised by hard working parents who both owned their own businesses, so I intimately understand what that lifestyle entails, the struggles, the responsibility, and the freedom.  My current life can be summarized by busy working family; balancing careers, time, finances, and children is a reality I understand. I also love to travel, get lost in books, and savor time with my family.

Californian Red Blend

California

Some of the greatest wines in California are a blend of various red grapes. The most successful blends follow the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot recipes of Bordeaux, but with even more intensity.

These wines are typically luscious and strong with lots of ripe blackberry, black currant, and vanilla flavors.

The warm days and cool nights of the Napa Valley in Northern California make it the ideal place to make Bordeaux-style red wines. Although the wines of Bordeaux have historically been considered the best wines of the world, the bolder, richer, and more fruit-forward wines of California are now just as respected.

Just like Bordeaux, California's dominant grape is Cabernet Sauvignon with its rich blackberry flavors. Merlot is added to soften the edges and add red fruit flavors. Cabernet Franc and Petite Verdot are even added at times for complexity. These California blends are very balanced and are great when they are young, but they can also age for decades.

Another popular blend is made from Grenache and Syrah. This style is a fuller and richer version of the wines of France's Rhône Valley.

ANN ARCEO - AAMS®

FINANCIAL PLANNER

I have been working in the financial planning industry for over 10 years. In my career in financial planning at PartnersInWealth, a wealth management firm based in Houston, Texas, which caters to high-net-worth clientele. I worked with the firm’s president to develop a new method of training to help advisors learn to deliver technical financial plans in an easy, "plain English" format that clients would understand.

I then worked for LPL Financial, an independent broker dealer, where I earned my Series 7 & 66 securities licenses. I worked alongside a branch manager creating financial plans, account summaries, and investment performance reports for high-net-worth clients.

I also have a passion for writing, and my financial articles have been featured on Investopedia.com, a website which has 20 million unique visitors per month. I have also written for ReadyForZero.com, BudgetTracker.com, and have been quoted in articles for Forbes and U.S. News & World Report.

I live with her husband and two children in Fort Collins, CO, and we enjoy spending time with friends, hiking, and of course planning our financial future together!

About Hinnant Family Vineyards

The Hinnant Family Vineyards & Winery Story

It all started in 1971 when the Hinnant siblings Jacqueline, Freddie, Douglas and Willard had a dream to start a vineyard in Johnston County. Freddie’s husband, Glen, had the honor of being the original vineyard manager that watched over the vineyard while the others maintained their jobs as a teacher, dentist, book keeper and carpenter. In the early years, grapes were sold to fresh markets, other vineyards, & to the public.

At the turn of the century, Williard & his son, Bob started their own quest to create wine from the family vineyard. Starting with just a few varieties of wine, the doors opened and in 2003 the first bottle was sold. The father & son pair enjoyed working side by side fine tuning their award winning wines until 2013, when Williard passed away. Bob, with his family’s reassurance, support (and secret recipe,) now operates Hinnant Family Vineyards & Winery.

Over the years, Willard & Bob acquired all of the land and holdings from Williard’s siblings. Building upon the original acreage growing to a 100 acres of grapes, the Hinnant Family Vineyards & Winery is the oldest and largest commercial Muscadine vineyard in the state of North Carolina.

The Hinnant Family has also become experts on other native grapes. From Virginia; the Norton grape takes up approximately 2 acres and is handcrafted to produce their driest, most complex red, offering oak, vanilla and spice notes! From Texas; they have a couple acres of an American hybrid Blanc du Bois. The fruit offers intense grapefruit, pineapple, and passion fruit flavors.

From the very beginning, there has been long standing tradition to open the Vineyard to the public during the harvest season. Every September Hinnant Family Vineyards & Winery encourages the public to come out and pick their own Muscadine grapes. A large white tent marks the start of the Harvest season & stands at the front of the business to welcome customers. There you can purchase pre-picked grapes, or pick up a bucket & head out into the vineyard. We invite you to come take part in this annual Hinnant Family Tradition.

Regardless of the season, the Hinnant Family invites you to visit the vineyard to see how their dream has developed.

About Chris Dale

It All Started…

In 2008, at the peak of the recession, I lost my mother to cancer in August and my father to a broken heart in November. In 2010, my grandmother passed away after a stroke. Then a heart wrenching experience in 2012 of losing my oldest child.

I became a financial planner in 2003 during the process of helping my parents in their declining health. In 2011, three years after my parents passed, I became a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ to better help families in need.

My personal experiences and knowledge of grief and loss of loved ones helps me to understand and assist families enduring similar situations. I’ve helped over 400 families navigate many financial issues and life circumstances such as grieving loss of loved ones.

I Truly Look At My Experiences In Life As Gifts I Can Use To Help Others.

I have an Elementary of Education degree from the University of Florida and a minor in Business Administration; I also specialized in Psychology.

As a result of my experiences with grief, many financial advisors have asked me for support in working with their own grieving clients. In such, I’ve created an online course and resources to help as many advisors as possible to understand grief and how to better serve their clients’ needs.

Even if you’re not a financial advisor, this course will help you understand grief and how to work with grieving clients. I’ve had many professionals take the course as well, such as tax and insurance advisors, even attorneys.

Hector Wine Company

Inspired Winemaking

At Hector Wine Company, our portfolio emulates a deep commitment to making wines that reflect our centuries old farm, Sawmill Creek Vineyards. Because of this commitment, we handcraft each wine. This means that we handpick in the vineyard and employ a second hand sort at the winery every time. We allow for long fermentations, often spontaneous, and don’t rush the wines into bottle. Our small production wines are carefully curated to express balance and terroir.

Soul Red

Our medium bodied, house style dry red. It is a blend of Syrah, Chancellor, Lemberger, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Sleek, with nice complexity.
